Weekly workshop!

We are hosting an experimental workshop series in Dare to Light home studios in Prague 7 starting from January 2012. All workshops are practical, hands-on experiences on a specific lighting-related topic and are held in a friendly atmosphere of a small group every Wednesday night with tea and cookies included in the participation fee.

Workshop schedule:

• January 18 – Good-looking people - lighting a human face on stage and for camera. How do people look beautiful in good photos and what makes a classically good lighting scene. The very basics and a bit more.

• January 25 – The mood in your bedroom – how to choose the lighting for a space and why it makes a difference – be it your living room or an art installation. If you want light the sculpture you made or a bookshelf you bought, you will need to know your lamps – what goes where and why you don’t really need to pay that much.
  

• UPCOMING WORKSHOPS:

• February 1 – The passion in your face – dramatic lighting for stage and camera. Want to make a statement or a special effect? Need to bring out some special character? You don’t need pyrotechnics and big stage lighting to make cool stuff happen. A bit of creativity is all you need.

• February 8 – Kitchen parties – how to create a festive atmosphere in your space. Have a birthday coming up? Your brother’s wedding party booked into a boring seminar space? Cannot afford an disco dj to come in with the bling stuff? Not to worry, you can make it look good with a bit of lighting knowledge by yourself!

• February 15 – no workshop here, Dare to Light is bringing out a special lighting show in Kampa theatre and needs the whole Wednesday for technical rehearsal! (What? You haven’t bought a ticket yet? You will need to click here and find out how…)

• February 22 – Light and shadow – the philosophy of lighting design. Why does some lighting look better than other? How does light affect our minds? How much does our culture and education affect the way we see light? There are many interesting questions about why lighting design is so awesome to start with, we will definitely need to discuss all of this over some tea and cookies! NB! THIS WORKSHOP IS FREE AND UNLIMITED, BRING ALL YOUR FRIENDS!!! (Well, it’s more of a seminar.)

• February 29 – Catalogues and consultants – how to shop for lights. So you have a project. Moved into a brand new flat? In charge of a new gallery space? And they gave you money to buy something? Wow, you’d better know what you are doing! Not all stores will sell you the good stuff and more expensive doesn’t mean better. Let’s go through some catalogues and see how to read the information the companies provide about their products!

All workshops start at 20:00 and last about 2,5 hours. You need to register at least one week beforehand by sending an email to johanna@daretolight.com and the participation fee of 300 CZK is non-refundable.

The topics for March and upcoming future will be decided as the project develops. Your ideas and wishes are more than welcome!
